In and around London, there are more than 100 fun runs including races for beginners, 5K runs, 10K runs, half marathons and the crème de la crème of all runs, The London Marathon. Most race organisers supply a baggage drop off point, portaloos, refreshments and medical services for the safety of all entrants. Entrance fees are generally a contribution toward the cost of organising the event, but some fees might include refreshments, promotional gifts and prizes.
The “Where’s Wally?” fun run
Takes place in March every year.
This event features a 1K race for under 12s as well as extra free races for kids. The 5K run is ideal for teams or beginners to walk, run or jog and the 10K route is generally undertaken by more seasoned runners. Registration fees differ for kids, adults and families and cost slightly more if you wear a costume. On the day there will be chipped timing, food stands, stalls, live music, kid’s rides plus free fun runs for kids.
This event takes place on Clapham Common, is sponsored by Clark’s shoes and raises money for the National Literacy Trust, an organisation that gives underprivileged children the help they deserve.
The Toyota Catch the Car 5K charity run
Takes place on Sunday March 24th at 10am.
This brand new, spring, friendly event is ideal for beginners and all ages are welcome. There will be a baggage tent, chip timing and medals and goodies for finishers. Car enthusiast will get a chance to view the all new Toyota Corolla and the all new Rav4, which will be the race cars at the event.
The race takes place at the scenic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and benefits Haven House Charity.
5K run around the Serpentine in Hyde Park
Takes place at lunchtime on the last Friday of every month
Regular runners find this event a splendid way to shake the dust off the work week and a great way to begin a relaxing weekend. The race time is 35 minutes with two different starting times; one for experienced runners and the second starting time three minutes later and leaves from Hyde Park’s bandstand.
Donations support three, important, medical charities.
The 10th Orchid River Run
Takes place on the evening of April 3rd 2019 at 6.30 pm
The 5K and 10K races are run on pavements alongside the River Thames and encompass some of the city’s most famous landmarks including the Tower of London, South Bank and the Millennium Bridge. 5K runners will only cover one lap and all entrants receive a medal, refreshments and treats.
The race begins and ends at St. Paul’s Cathedral and is part of Orchid’s Male Cancer Awareness Week.
London City Adidas City fun run
Sunday April 7th 2019.
The event village opens at 7.30 a.m. and the bag drop at 8 a.m. There are four race waves; 9 a.m., 10.15 a.m., 11.30 a.m. or 12.45 a.m. Entrants can choose their race wave and should arrive 40 minutes before their selected time. Every wave runs for one hour through a route of closed streets past London’s historic landmarks. All runners receive a free, tech tee shirt and a free, photo album. Your goal is to see how many laps you can run before the hooter sounds. When the hooter sounds, you have 10 minutes to return to the starting point and collect your medal and finishing treats.
This fun run starts and finishes at the event village, Paternoster Square at the rear of St. Paul’s Cathedral, and all money raised goes to the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, which provides pioneering treatments for sick children.
Run Richmond Park Spring 5K and 10K fun run
Takes place on Sunday April 13th 2019 at 10 a.m. and the run begins at 10.10 a.m. and the start of the run will be staggered as per park rules.
All runners receive chip timing and instant race results. The route is run along tracks and footpaths within beautiful parkland and will be clearly marked by signs and cones. The predominately flat course covers tracks and grassy areas, but is not dedicated to race entrants, so look out for Sunday walkers with their dogs and kids. Authorised personnel will ensure that all runners are accounted for at the end of the race and prizes donated by local shops will be handed out with race finishing medals. Water is available at the start and end of the course as well as at the 5K marker.
Starting point is the bandstand in Richmond Park.
The DeadDrop Chocolate run
Takes place on Easter Saturday April 20th 2019 at 10 am.
This themed, 5K race is a great family event and is more like a treasure hunt with maps and clues that send you walking, jogging or running from station to station. Form a team and take your time walking or jogging as you work out the challenging clues or run the course at your own speed. Time is not an issue as you collect points along the way while the course meanders past some of London’s most famous landmarks and you go in search of the Easter Bunny and chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Each race finisher receives a special medal and a soft drink.
The meeting place is Green Park, London and all sponsored funds go to Lung Cancer Research.
The sixth London Easter fun run
On Monday April 22nd 2019 at 10.30 am.
This annual fun run includes an 800 metres children’s run, a two mile run and a 10K run. All races features chip timing and winners in each age category win prizes. Everyone finishing the race receives a medal, Easter eggs and other treats. Late entries are accepted on race day and the event organiser’s team will be on site to give encouragement, advice and help.
Race location, The Hub, Regent’s Park. All money raised benefits the Breast Cancer Now Charity.
The Tower of London 10K fun run
On Wednesday May 8th 2019.
This family event takes place after work and is run on a 1km, grass circuit round the tower’s moat and is ideal for beginners or entrants of all levels. Everyone completing the 10 lap course receives a medal at the end; whether the participants walk, jog or run. This is a great team event, but children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by an adult during the entire race.
The venue is The Moat at The Tower of London and benefits The British Heart Foundation.
The Mencap Hyde Park run
On Saturday June 15th 2019.
The 1K race starting at 9.30 a.m. is great for families to walk, jog or run together and the 5K and 10K runs, which start at 10.30 a.m., are suitable for all fitness levels; even wheelchair “runners” with their supporters. A baggage zone is provided and all entrants receive a chipped timing number, a free Mencap tee shirt as well as a finisher’s medal. Officials will monitor your route and medical attendants will be standing by at all water stations.
The fun run starts and finishes at the bandstand in Hyde Park.
London Pizza Run
On Sunday June 16th 2019.
Sign up to run a family mile, 5K or 10K and, whatever distance in which you choose to participate, fun is guaranteed after the race at a pizza party in the sun with live music.. Entry fees include slices of pizza, a pizza shaped medal for finishers, and prizes for the best fancy dress.
As yet the location has not been published, but the event will take place in a park in central London.
The Wild Wine 5K run
This is the first of its kind teamed with a London winery and takes place on Saturday June 22nd 2019 at 11 a.m.
Participants must be 18 years or older to compete. All along the course there will be the opportunity to pause and sip wine, but don’t pause too long; you will want to make sure you finish to enjoy the official wine tasting at the end of the race and to collect your prize. Entry fee includes wine tasting and dogs on leads can accompany their owners at no cost. Food will be available to purchase on site.
Victoria Park is the venue and all money raised goes to Lung Cancer Research.
ASCIS and Virgin Sport 10K race
Takes place on July 21st 2019.
The course passes eight tube stations and all participants will get an amazing view of the London Eye along with other famous, London landmarks like Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. The entrance fee includes an ASCIS tee shirt, a tote bag, a finishing medal and free photos as well as the inevitable, celebratory street party at the close of the event. DJs pump out music at every 1k marker to motivate you.
The 2019 route has yet to be published, but funds raised will go to multiple cancer charities.
Runthrough London Halloween 5K or 10 K race
On Thursday October 31st 2019 at 7 p.m.
This is one of the most supported races within the London area. Everyone loves to dress up, especially kids, so become a kid for an evening and join the merry throng as they chase around pristine grounds keeping an eye out for “tricks” along the way. Those finishing the course are presented with a themed medal and there will be prizes presented for the best costumed individual or team. Of course there are “treats” for all finishers, too.
This flat, fast race is run around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
All money raised goes to Lung Cancer Research.
