Hydration & Recovery: Basics that Matter

We talk a lot about strength training and showing up consistently. But if you’re looking to maximise your results, hydration is important.

It’s about giving your body the basic support it needs to adapt, repair, and go again.

When you’re properly hydrated, your body can:

  • Transport nutrients more efficiently
  • Regulate your temperature
  • Lubricate your joints
  • Recover more effectively

Recovery is active

When we talk about recovery, it means:

  • Getting enough protein for muscle repair
  • Managing inflammation without overdoing it
  • Sleeping well and waking fully rested
  • Giving your nervous system enough time and fuel to reset between sessions

We’re particularly interested in things like L-Glutamine (immune support and high stress), BCAAs (muscle repair), and magnesium (sleep and energy). These can be overlooked, but are crucial for health and performance.

Why we chose FourFive

We partnered with FourFive because they’re doing it right.

Founded by two ex-pro rugby players  – George Kruis and Dom Day – FourFive started out as a way to get clean, reliable supplements into the hands of people who take their training and results seriously. They’ve been through injury and performance pressure – they get it.

Everything they make is:

  • Informed Sport certified (safe for drug-tested athletes)
  • Vegan-friendly and cleanly formulated
  • Designed with a focus on recovery, immunity, and long-term performance — not just quick hits

We’re not saying you need supplements, but if you’re looking to enhance your recovery the right ones can help.

Here’s what we recommend:

  • Hydrate proactively, not reactively.  By the time you’re thirsty, performance may have already dropped.
  • Make it easy to remember.  Link it to something you already do: drink a glass first thing when you switch the kettle on, another before you leave the house, and again before training. That’s three down already.
  • Use a product you’ll enjoy and stick with. Fourfive sachets are genuinely tasty and simple to pop in your bag or glovebox.  Building habits you can keep, because it’s effortless.
  • Go for electrolytes if you’re sweating a lot, training regularly, or just want to stay sharp. Water alone sometimes isn’t enough.

If you’re going to use recovery products, use good ones. We only recommend things we’ve tried ourselves – and FourFive make the cut.

Let’s talk food.

Hydration and recovery matter, but without decent nutrition, progress still stalls.
