At Foundry Personal Training Gym in the City we understand that you can’t always get to the gym, so we have compiled a list of outdoor fitness gyms that you can head to on your way to, back from or during your lunch hour to keep you active and motivated.

Outdoor gym equipment are a little thin on the ground in the City but we include ones with a mixture of static and moving items can be found at the following parks and open spaces:

King George’s Field

This garden features a central pond surrounded by a small area of grass with a mix of shrub and herbaceous planting. There are several benches including some with tables as well as play equipment for children to enjoy. A large green wall on an adjacent building extends the greenery beyond ground level.

Nearest tube: Tower Gateway, Tower Hill or Aldgate.

Chicksand Street Park

Chicksand Street Park is an area easily accessed from Brick Lane. Situated at the heart of London’s East End. Three size pull up bars, high parallel bars, plenty of benches for tricep dips, feet elevated push ups and a basketball court.

Rope Walk Garden

Rope Walk Gardens has a multi-use games area which can be used for 5 a side football or up to 8 or even 9 a side football. It is completely free to use and has a concrete surface. Equipment includes a cross trainer and smart hand bike.

Guy Street Park

Once a burial ground for Guy’s Hospital, then a recreation ground, the area was re-landscaped and reopened in 2003. In spring, a trail of crocus winds its way through the gardens and continues in Leathermarket Gardens opposite.

This is a small urban park with playground and sports court.

Dickens Square Park

Dickens’ Fields is the small local park located off Falmouth Road, SE1, close to the Rockingham, Lawson and Trinity Newington estates. Much of the surrounding residential area has been designated as a conservation area. Dickens’ Fields is of local importance for nature conservation with 11 bird species, including Blackcap and Green woodpecker.

Fitness and outdoor gym equipment are available throughout the park.

Potters Fields Park is a unique green open space by the Thames next to Tower Bridge. Southwark Park

Southwark Park first opened its gates to the public in 1869, and was one of the earliest parks to be opened by the Metropolitan Board of Works. The design of the park is attributed to Alexander McKenzie and covers an area of 25 hectares.

Nelson Square Park

Nelson Square is located in Southwark and near to Waterloo East in South East London. It is a small open space with a multi-use games area in the middle and is owned by Southwark Council as a community resource. The multi-use games area can be used for 5 a side football or basketball and has perimeter fencing over the goal areas.
