Discover the Simple Key to Long-Term Progress

People are always asking me, ‘How long till I see I changes?’, ‘Why can’t I drink alcohol?’ “Why can’t I eat ‘X’?’. The thing is, nothing comes easy and everything needs to be worked for, be that in life or the gym.

The key to making real progress isn’t the latest fad or bit of kit. It’s consistency. And if you master it, it will pay dividends in the long run. You cannot out-train a bad diet however hard you try. Sometimes you just need to knuckle down and do what is necessary to get the job done. Train and eat well for a given period of time and you will move and feel better than before.

Shortcut to disappointment

Yes, there are shortcuts, and everywhere you look you see advertisements promising ‘Abs in 7 minutes’ or ‘A beach body in 4 weeks’. If you follow those plans then you’re likely to see results in six weeks only for these to diminish further down the line because you’ve undertaken too much, too soon.

I’d much rather see someone make small incremental changes often in order to succeed. It gives them a lot more scope to work with and a lot more time to adjust. If you throw everything all at once at a client it becomes information overload and eventually something will give and the plan will go out of the window. Slow and steady wins the race.

Value your time

People are so busy with life these days they forget to take some time out for themselves. Make an appointment with yourself, value your time and stick to it. If you want to train three times a week, schedule your times at the start of every week and stick to them. Treat it as you would any other appointment, it will benefit you. The same goes for nutrition. Plan your meals for the week ahead and prepare them in bulk for that week.

It really is that simple; train hard, eat well for a prolonged period of time and you will get to where you want to be. Be consistent. Rome wasn’t built in a day – and nor will you be.
