The Foundry Personal Training Way - Foundry Personal Training Gyms

The Foundry Personal Training Way

For some, walking into a gym for the first time can be a daunting experience. Lots of foreign objects, the odd person grunting and the casual poser in front of the mirror is enough to put anyone off (FYI we don’t have any mirrors in the gym at Foundry, only in the changing rooms)

Have you ever felt like this?

Sometimes even just stepping foot in a gym can make you feel awkward and out of place. Making the decision to exercise is a great first step though and it’s our job as fitness professionals to make that transition as seamless as possible.

This is why it’s crucial for the lines of communication to be open from the start. Expectations need to be aligned with reality. This is where goal setting and the like come in.

At Foundry we have a typical members’ journey as a reference point for prospective clients.  We can show where people can expect to be after 3, 6 and 12 months of training with us 3-4 times a week on average.

This data has been collected from the hundreds of people we’ve trained since we opened the doors. It gives people a tangible viewpoint and markers to aim for.

If someone comes with little or no previous training history. Then he or she can expect to see x, y and z if they train 3-4 times a week in ‘x’ amount of time

Alongside this we have our Standards: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level. Split between male and female. This isn’t to categorise anyone, and push them into a certain box. It’s more a tool to show members what’s possible for their own journey and timeframe.

People can measure themselves against real standards. These have been devised for our members, by our members. They are not copy and pasted from a gym down the road; they are Foundry specific.

So what happens when a new member joins the Foundry crew?

After the first month with us, we discuss goal setting and nutrition. We ask you to a keep a food diary from the off, but we do not discuss it in depth until you’ve been with us for a few weeks. Why? Information overload.

Learning new exercise movements, and training three to four times a week is a bit of a culture shock to some. On top of that, telling someone what they should eat or drink is too much, too soon.

We want you to settle into the environment first and we want to gain your trust. We then sit down, one to one, and go through nutrition. You can then ask any questions as you will have had time to think about your experience.

You also get assigned one of the coach’s as your ‘go to’ person. The coach touches base with you on a regular basis. If you want your nutrition looked at in depth, you can send your diary on a weekly basis.

We always scrutinise our processes and systems. We treat them as working documents. This ensures the best experience for our members. This is just as, if not more important than the actual training itself.

We want every interaction we have with our clients to be seamless and positive.

Hopefully this has given you a bit more of an insight as to how we work at Foundry.
